Okay, it is not a secret that Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was rooted from Alpha Kappa Alpha. So tell my sorors and I something new. I would suggest reading "In Search of SisterHood" for a detailed account of the establishment of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. In the meanwhile, let me give you some brief history of my illustrious sorority. Delta Sigma Theta was founded January 13, 1913 on the campus of Howard University. At this time, the Black Greek Letter Organizations were Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and let me not forget Kappa Alpha Psi (thanks soror!). Anyway, 22 undergraduate women wanted to use their collective knowledge and intelligence to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in dire need. At that time, Alpha Kappa Alpha really wasn't in the business of being oriented towards helping the community.Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide services and programs to promote human welfare. Not to throw the bomb parties and step all day long. The sorority currently has 870+ chapters worldwide. Membership in Delta is over 190, 000 strong and growing. The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the organization's Five-Point Program Thrust:
