![]() ![]() ![]() Many Years ago, Delta Founder Florence Letcher Toms began collecting Trunk Up Elephants as a symbol of Good Luck. Founder Tom's collection, which includes gifts of Pachyderms from around the world, was donated to the Delta Archives by her widower, a resident of Washington, D.C. The Midwestern Region, according to sources at Grand Chapter, initiated the Trunk-Up Elephant as a project. First the goal for collectors is to receive one Trunk-Up Elephant gift for each founder and from there to infinity in terms of number and style. From this meager beginning, the Trunk-Up Elephant has grown as an unofficial Delta Symbol. Although the elephant has a reputation as an awkward, over-sized mammal with a taste for peanuts and a good memory- it is known internationally as a Good Luck item.
